Some go to find themselves.  Some go to stay lost.  Someday I’ll just go for good.

Always Trust A Pony In A Storm…

Will looks like he's in a movie still from the "The Thing".

Don't ever buy these sleds. They fail on the sled part.

The thirty year old roll of Chromes in a whiteout was probably a bad idea…but so wasn’t a skateboard in a blizzard.  (note the famous baggy boots and women’s scarf).

The next day and a half was easily mapped out once we discovered that Cory St. Hill was unplowed and very sled able.

The Allston camaraderie kicked into high gear. It was like a 20 something's version of red rover but with plows.

The Allston camaraderie kicked into high gear. It was like a 20 something’s version of red rover but with plows.  We won.

Not sure where all the children hailed from.

There were real snowboards, skateboard-snowboards, inner tubes, trash can lids, one guy made it down on his bicycle, six or so people were sharing a mattress down it at one point.

..

Now for miles.

Snow uphill....

Snow uphill….

...and snow downhill.

…and snow downhill.

This bank was just asking for snow tunnels.

Fun for days.

When Nemo hit Boston this past winter we found it hard to sit idly by while the inches quickly cloaked the city.  Take heed of the warnings we did not.  Rather, we double wrapped the infamous Allston plastic bag boots and set out to really feel nature’s wrath in the face.  Most of nature stayed frozen in Will’s beard.  We made it about a mile.  It took about an hour and a half. Well worth every frozen digit.

I have my father to thank for the trusty ol’ Kodak Pony he gave me a while back.  A near silent little rangefinder that survived boy scout camp with him in the mid fifties.  And now Nemo in 2013.  I guess they really don’t make em like they used to.

Instant.

Soon… Nerds will rule these calling streets of Allston… Patrolling in highly organized packs of nerdy hipsters called Nerdsters.  Pockets protected, slacks starched,  hair so slicked a Ken doll would feel envy…

…….The cool kids will rebel.  They’ll hold fast to porches and corner stoops preaching through clouds of hand rolled tobacco smoke and seas of rolling highlife for the right to shred freely…

........

….Foreign once rival gangs will gather to unite against this nerd fascism.  Skinny’s and plaids will bleed together as brothers……..

October 9, 2012

Two of my most favorite people to photograph are my father and grandmother.  Maybe because they’re both so used to me sticking a camera in their face that they just don’t notice anymore.  Or maybe because they both have honest personalities that render through on film.

“Guth”. He has much “Dad Wisdom”.

and much “Dad Humor”.

and few shirts I guess.

Despite how much I truly appreciate all he’s taught me I’m sure I’ll still find myself in the off in the woods someday feeling helpless and wishing I’d paid better attention.

Nana Babe.

She has equal amount of prayers for you as advice.

….and looks of disaproval.

Nana had a little more fun in what she taught me.  I still don’t have much of a taste for pepper because I believed for most of my youth that if you sniffed it you would sneeze for the rest of your life. …and she knew someone it happened to.  Oh Nana…!

September 23, 2012

So last February I ventured out to Nebraska to visit my dear Colin Gee and Jess.  For a long time Colin became a sort of muse for me photographically.  Living in Inman Square has rooted itself as my first home in Boston.  A weeks worth of strings humming, keys chiming and that ol’ Colin croon was like a familiar smell that instantly takes you back somewhere.
